Faculty Instructions

 

GETTING STARTED

The following are the instructions for CLAQWA Online – Beta 2.3.0.  These instructions are for faculty members only and provide a quick start-up guide.  Please note that all faculty members must have a CLAQWA Online account to use the system.

 

Faculty outside USF:

If you are not a faculty member at the University of South Florida but would like to have access to CLAQWA Online, please contact Dr. T. Flateby at tflateby@admin.usf.edu to request a new account for you and your institution.

 

USF Faculty:

If you are currently a faculty member at the University of South Florida, please e-mail Ms. Vidya Tatineni at Vtatineni@admin.usf.edu to request a new account.

 

IMPORTANT: When requesting a new account please include your full name, institution name, an e-mail address that you check on a regular basis, the name of the course(s), semester in which you will teach the course(s), and a keyword for each course.  The keyword(s) will be used by your students to register for your course(s) once they have created their student accounts with CLAQWA Online.  Do not forget to provide your students with you course(s) keyword(s).  Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for your request to be processed.

 

Once your request has been processed you will receive an e-mail with the following subject: CLAQWA Online! Faculty Access Details. This e-mail contains your log-in information.  Please make sure your spam filter does not filter out e-mails with that subject line.

 

ADDING AN ASSIGNMENT

Once you log in you will see a “Faculty Details” home page.  Mouse over the “faculty menu” options and four (4) options will be displayed: Courses, Assignments, Course Pass phrase, and Students.  Mouse over “Courses” and then click on the “View and Edit Courses OR Add Assignments” link.  Then select the semester you are teaching the course and click on the “See Courses” button.  You will see a list of courses for the semester you chose.  Click on the “Add” link under the column “Assignments” and you will be taken to the assignments page.  Then enter the name of the assignment, specify whether the assignment is to be peer-reviewed, add a description of the assignment, specify whether there is a due date for the assignment, and then click on the “Add Assignment” button.  You will be redirected to a confirmation page.  From there you can go back to add another assignment, or you can go back to your home page by clicking on the “Home” button.

 

UPDATING (MODIFYING) AN ASSIGNMENT

Mouse over the “faculty menu” button and then mouse over the “Assignments” link and click on the “View and Update Assignments” link.    You will be able to modify the details of an assignment, or delete an assignment.

 

 

ASSESSING STUDENTS’ ASSIGNMENTS

Mouse over the “faculty menu” button and then mouse over the “Students” option and click on “View Registered Students, Assignments & Details”.

Select the semester and click on the “See Courses” button. Click on the “View List” link under the column “Students”.  You will see a list of students registered for the course in CLAQWA Online.  Then click on the “View” link under the column “Assignments” to see a student’s assignments.  There you can check what assignments have been submitted by the student, the date of submission, and whether the assignment has been peer-reviewed by your student.  You can download the original assignment and use the CLAQWA Online Tool to provide feedback or evaluate the assignment by clicking on the “Add” link under the “New Assessment” column.

To provide feedback on a stdent's paper, place your cursor on the paper where you want to add a CLAQWAicon or compose your own comments. To add a CLAQWA icon, after placing the cursor where you want the icon, click on the CLAQWA element or the appropriate level (1-5). To add your own comment after placing your cursor at the desired location, type your comment and click on "Add comment" your comment and click on "add comment" your feedback can be viewed by clicking on " Preview Evaluation" after enabling pop-ups.

Please be aware of the following common student issues:

1. Students registering for incorrect institutions:  Make sure that students register for the correct institution.
2.CLAQWA Online only supports Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Recent versions of Internet Explorer(v7.0 and higher  need to have CLAQWA opened under compatibility mode which can be found in the menu under tools -> compatibitilty view settings. (check the option which says 'Display all websites in Compatibility View')
